Helping nonprofit and social enterprise leadership teams deliver high impact outcomes for their clients, communities and donors through EOS™, a fully sustainable operating model

“Vision without action is a daydream. Action without vision is a nightmare.”

Japanese Proverb

What do I offer?  An agency that is all you ever dreamed it would be.

How does it make your life better?  It enables you to deliver higher impact outcomes in less time, freeing you, your leadership team, and your employees to live better work lives, better personal lives, and better lives all the way around.

What am I am asking for?  A simple phone call to see if it makes sense for us to work together.  I would like to think I can help everyone, yet I never assume I can help anyone.  I simply want to find out if I can help you.

Who I Am

An Objective Advocate For Your Agency

I am driven to be a person of value—someone who my friends believe is worth knowing and spending time with, someone with whom my colleagues genuinely enjoy working, and someone who both inspires and is inspired by my clients.  And I most appreciate people who provide value of their own by being vital, passionate, and engaged.  I’m direct but thoughtful, with little appreciation for the superficial.  I’m good at what I do because I’m not afraid of the nuance or the root cause.  Sometimes that even allows me to glimpse the profound.

I started InFlow Advisory as the forum for my practice as an EOS Implementer™EOS™, which stands for Entrepreneurial Operating System™, is without question the best way for me to meld my business experience—especially my experience with forward thinking leadership teams—and my life-long fascination with business models.  It also fills my need for meaningful affiliation with people who do great work by helping others.

I must go down to the seas again,
to the lonely sea and the sky;
And all I ask is a tall ship
and a star to steer her by

John Masefield

John Masefield’s Sea Fever is an elegant and completely unpretentious poem. It’s about being who you really are and living the way you really want to live. What does that mean to you? Do you yearn for it most as a spouse, a parent, a business leader, or in some other context?
Life and its routine can do that to us—drive us to respond to what Masefield describes as “… a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied.”
Yet, even as Masefield yearns for something else, he wraps his yearning in the context of “… a tall ship and a star to steer her by.” If you were to give in to your desire to be who you really are and live the way you really want to live, what ship would you choose to transport you, and what star would you use to fix your course?
The tools you need to get there are already at your disposal—the sextant to determine where you really are; the compass to confirm your direction, and the eyeglass to keep you focused on the horizon. All you need is a set of resolute values and the desire to make the voyage.

What I Do

As an EOS Implementer™, I help nonprofit and social enterprise leadership teams get what they want from their agencies. I do that by helping them create laser-like focus on six key operational components.

VISION—Vision is about getting everyone in the organization on the same page regarding where the company is going and how it’s going to get there. I help leaders crystalize their vision by answering eight critical questions and using tools that ensure it’s shared by all.

PEOPLE—An agency cannot achieve a great vision without great people. Every organization defines great people differently, so I cut through the popular vernacular and straight to the heart of what makes yours an organization of great people. I support this with methodologies designed to put the right people in the right seats.

DATA—Simply put, this means running an agency on facts, figures, and objective information, rather than feelings, egos, and subjective emotions. I facilitate this through the consistent use of scorecards and measurables.

ISSUES—The goal here is to become proficient at solving problems as they arise—and solving them forever. The underlying methodologies focus on the creation of issues lists and a proven process for prioritizing and solving everything that’s on them.

PROCESS—This component is about getting the most important stuff in the agency done the right way—and best way—every time. The relevant tools are used to document critical processes and ensure that they are followed by everyone who touches them

TRACTION—This is about driving vision down to the ground and executing on it, day in and day out. I facilitate this through tools that focus on fiscal commitments and a powerful meeting pulse.
